

Supplemental or voluntary insurance policies
are sold on a voluntary basis to employees or to
individuals. Policies may include a variety of
benefits such as cancer, hospital, intensive
care, life, hospital confinement
indemnity,long-term care, accident, sickness,
short-term disability etc. They are specific
benefits that employers administer, and for
which employees pay. Since they are designed
to supplement, not replace, current coverage,
employers are willing to make them available to
their employees.
Some policies pay you in CASH 100% of the
benefits provided irregardless of what your
medical insurance pays to your doctors or to the
hospital
Employers offer these policies to allow
employees more choice in designing their
benefits packages. This choice helps with
retention of good employees a cost containment
for the employer, since the employee usually
pays 100 percent of the cost. In addition, if the
premiums are paid through a pre-tax deduction
(IRCs 125), the employer can also realize payroll
tax savings by offering these supplemental plans.
Accident policies: assist in paying for
emergency treatment , with specific sum amount
on injuries, and initials hospitalization benefits.
Cancer policies: Although health insurance can
help offset the costs of cancer treatment, you still
may have to cover deductibles and co-payment
on your own. Additionally, cancer treatment can
cause out-of-pocket expenses that are not
covered by traditional health insurance, such as
Travel, food, experimental treatment, home
health care, lodging, and child care household
help. Meanwhile, living expenses such as car
payments, mortgages or rent, and utility bills
continue, whether or not you are able to work.
Dental Insurance:
Dental plans are usually one of two types: basic or
comprehensive. Basic plans cover preventive care
such as cleaning, fillings, X rays, etc.
Vision Care: Vision plans fit nicely overall benefits
plan to accomplish objectives such as choice for
employees, flexibility, and cost containment for
employers.
Vision care coverage is a separate plan covering
medical treatment relating to eye conditions.
Ophthalmologists, optometrists, or opticians can
render care.
Plans will typically cover all or a portion of
examinations, eyeglasses, and contact lenses.
Most plans will, however, limit an eye examination
to not more than once in a 12-month period and
limit new lenses and frames to every 24 months.
